Week 3 aspiration to implementaion

A new week has come and gone and a lot has happened since the last post on this blog. After showing my Political Poster to my lecturer and putting it online on my DeviantArt account and received constructive to aid my redesign of the poster. This week’s tutorial involved use of the extract tool which I was already familiar with so look out for that.

I finished my research report this week as well, which I chose to do on Lee Miller. Her photographs intrigued me and she clearly influenced the world of photography, launching into a respected medium of art. The concept for the self portrait I have so far is a combination of nature and technology and I’ll work on it soon.

Political Poster: revised

I reworked my poster to be more aesthetically pleasing. Alterations made were:
  • Reworking of the title text
  • Editing of the border colour
  • Removal of cluttered AIDS ribbons
  • Gradient hue change on the field to resemble blood-soaked field
  • AIDS ribbons as “blossoms” on the dead tree
  • Total rework of typography. Removed most text from previous version, replaced by one centered quote
  • Smaller AIDS/Africa logo
  • Custom designed logo to eliminate unwanted text for aesthetic reasons
  • Added vultures for symmetrical purposes
  • Overall grid-like structure of piece implemented

Here is the new design:

Overall I am very pleased with the adjustments, the poster looks much more cleaner and less cluttered. The message is more obvious yet more subtle which is always desired when doing a political piece.

Lee Miller research Paper

For my research paper I chose to do the photographer Lee Miller who from the 20’s onwards for her work for vogue and other outlets was considered one of the most revolutionary photographers of her era. Her pioneering of the Solarization technique as well as the ability to use composition and interpretive imagery in her pieces made her an exemplary artist.

Some of her work:

Works of Lee Miller I write about in my report.
