Week 4 GUI and website development
Week 4 has come and gone and I have now completed my design for my Graphic User Interface (website). The design is a mock portfolio site and is based on the modern trend of large background websites in which the main content would be centered with a gigantic background there for purely aesthetic reasons.
To research website design and grid structure used specifically for the web I ventured to several design blogs such as Web Designer Wall and the blog from ThemeForest which is a stock web template site.
Research for Web Design

How to CSS a large background tutorial from Web Designer Wall was incredibly useful for inspiration for my Graphic User Interface. The idea of modernized websites having an enlarged background to accommodate those with high screen resolutions whilst simultaneously adjusting for those with standardized screen resolutions was appealing to me as I strive produce work which is both aesthetically pleasing and practicial.

Common Mistakes in Web Design article on the ThemeForest blog was incredibly helpful in developing the fundamental understanding and providing guidelines for my website design. This post gave information of colour scheme, grid structure, padding, typography amongst many others and allowed myself to avoid many pitfalls when developing the design.

The “website” is like a mock Portfolio site which doesn’t exist, containing false information about myself which may be true years from now, hopefully. I focused more on the structure of the site but in hindsight one aspect I potentially could’ve improved on is the padding for the text. I will tinker with the design until the final due date.
